Kirsten Dunst in Chanel Haute Couture
Kirsten and Karl (Lagerfeld, that is) go together like, well, satin and lace. Both delicate fabrics are featured in this stunning, sheer-skirted spring number, and Kiki's choice of a bright lip and simple headband punctuated the look perfectly. It's a totally modern take on a 1920s-style silhouette.
Clémence Poésy in Calvin Klein Collection
One of our favorite red carpet dressers, Clémence generally chooses French labels for public outings, but at a Calvin Klein event last week, she honored the American design legend in a mod little ivory shift—and looked incredible. We especially loved her choice of accessories—the square clutch and minimalist bronze platforms finished off this sleek, chic ensemble.
Jessica Chastain in Oscar de la Renta
Many say redheads should avoid scarlet outfits. Boy, does Chastain put that myth to rest! The stunning actress attended a photocall for Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life (which later scored the festival's Palme d'Or) in a crimson pre-fall frock cinched with a corset-style belt in the same hue. Nobody does red like de la Renta, after all.
Elizabeth Olsen in The Row
Talk about a sister act! Mary-Kate and Ashley's little sis turned up at the photocall for her film Martha Marcy May Marlene in an ivory lace look from their high-end collection The Row, which she teamed with a wonderful pair of embellished sandals. Lizzie later wore another look from the twins' line to her flick's evening premiere, firmly securing her spot on our "Ones to Watch" list.
Eve Hewson in Miu Miu
Miuccia Prada's colorful spring collection for Miu Miu combined neon hues with playful patterns, and we loved the cutout-front number newcomer (and Bono's daughter) Eve chose for her photocall for This Must Be The Place, which she paired with purple pumps by the same label. How appropriate that this side-pleated frock is splashed with stars—we think that Eve's is definitely on the rise.
Fan Bing Bing in Atelier Versace
Though you might not recognize her name just yet, this Chinese actress donned some of the finest looks at last week's festival. A die-hard couture fanatic, Fan wore a violet ombre Versace early in the week, teamed with a silver minaudiere from the same fashion house. Despite its elaborate chiffon ruffles, the gown somehow doesn't overpower the petite starlet. Lovely!
Milla Jovovich in Prada
Milla's always been one of our favorite ladies to watch—and not just because we're obsessed with Katinka, her ZoolanderLa Conquete, Jovovich wowed in a drop-waisted, beaded Prada gown finished with a boyish collar that matched the red carpet itself. Ornate in construction yet simple in silhouette, the dress looked just right for a Riviera matinee.
Inès de la Fressange in Carven
Supermodel, fashion icon, and longtime Karl Lagerfeld BFF Inès chose a Grecian-style draped dress by buzzworthy label Carven for the opening-day festivities. From her megawatt smile to her easy-chic Roger Vivier sandals to her enviable physique, the celebrated catwalker's look is to die for. Oh, and in case you were wondering, de la Fressange is in her mid-fifties. Hard to believe, n'est-ce pas?
Kirsten Dunst in Chloé
Oops, we Dunst it again. But when you nab the Best Actress honors at Cannes, as Kiki did for her role in Melancholia, you're allowed a double mention on our Best Dressed list. And at the Lars von Trier film's photocall, Kirsten's pleated Chloé frock stole the show. Saffron can be a tricky color to wear, but Dunst pulls it off, quite literally, with flying colors.
Penelope Cruz in Stella McCartney
Penelope tends to opt for super-embellished gowns at awards shows and red carpet appearances, so we appreciated her exercising a little, ahem, Cruz control here. This navy velvet number by Stella McCartney is simple, flattering, and chic. And bonus points for Penelope's easy, loose locks—so much cooler than a stuffy updo.
Tilda Swinton in Haider Ackermann
Tilda's devil-may-care approach to fashion often raises eyebrows, but there's no denying that the custom satin gown she sported last week was a spot-on choice. This navy Haider Ackermann number is edgy without looking outlandish, elegant without seeming staid. And after seeing Swinton in so many oversized, androgynous looks in the past, we loved that she opted for a more body-conscious frock this time.
Uma Thurman in Versace
Quentin Tarantino's favorite leading lady acted as a juror at this year's festival, meaning she needed ten days' worth of amazing outfits. The snow-white feathered Versace she sported at the opening ceremony, however, was our hands-down favorite. Its thigh-high slit and strapless bodice are incredibly flattering (not that the six-foot-tall actress needs much help in that department), and those Chopard emeralds were the best jewels we spotted all week.
Zoe Saldana in Armani Privé
Fashion-wise, Zoe never seems to put a wrong foot forward, and her choice of a side-draped Armani ensemble at the Tree of Life premiere only adds another knockout to that perfect batting record. We love the bow detail at the hip, the voluminous skirt—even those Nicholas Kirkwood slingbacks caught our eye!
Elodie Bouchez in Yves Saint Laurent
The French actress kicked off Cannes in style, wearing a YSL pre-fall column gown to the festival's opening ceremonies. We love the gorgeous scalloped details and the peekaboo cutouts—and the golden embroidery sets off Elodie's perfectly tousled French-girl 'do to perfection.
